What are the criteria for judging postpartum lochia? There are three types of lochia: Under normal circumstances, the lochia discharged from the maternity hall is bloody but not smelly, including blood discharged from the uterine cavity, necrotic slough tissue and mucus, etc. The contents of lochia vary at different times postpartum. Generally, there are three different types of lochia in normal mothers. Bloody lochia Bloody lochia is also called red lochia. This kind of lochia has a large amount, especially on the first day after delivery. The amount can reach 100-150 ml. It is bright red in color, sometimes with small blood clots, and has a bloody smell, but it is not smelly. Postpartum I\’ve had this lochia for a week. Serous lochia Serous lochia. It is discharged on the 5th to 10th day after delivery, and its color becomes lighter and appears as a light red serous liquid. White lochia. White lochia. It is discharged 10-14 days after delivery. Lochia gradually changes from light red to light yellow or white. The amount is larger than usual leucorrhea and lasts for ten days. Generally, mothers will clear their lochia around 20 days after delivery. However, each mother has great individual differences, and the amount and duration of postpartum lochia are different. There are also a few mothers whose lochia does not clear up until about a month. Most women get rid of lochia within three weeks after delivery. When the uterus involution is not good, or there is residual placenta, fetal membranes or infection in the uterine cavity, the amount of lochia increases, the duration is prolonged, and it is accompanied by a foul odor. This situation must be taken seriously. If the lochia persists for more than 3-4 weeks, or are even excessive and accompanied by abdominal pain and discomfort, consider that there may be a problem and you should go to the hospital for treatment in time.
