Some schools have already finished their midterm exams, while some will take them next week. If the results are not satisfactory, parents will wonder, should they arrange make-up classes? Or do you need more tutoring? Therefore, at this point, let me tell you about making up lessons, how to do it in the most scientific way, and what pitfalls must be avoided. 01 Why the arrangement of make-up classes may be wrong. First of all, I am not opposed to make-up classes and tutoring classes. I think that in the current \”fast-paced\” teaching, some children do need extra help. However, improperly arranged make-up lessons are not only ineffective, but can also have negative effects. Let me first talk about a basic principle: children’s learning efficiency and learning ability should be improved through supplementary lessons. How to understand? Let\’s look at an example. Little H, who is in the second grade of junior high school, couldn\’t understand in class, so his mother arranged make-up classes for him. Twice a week, the teacher would give him a few papers, analyze the test papers, and give him homework, so that little H could go home and continue working. Does this look like the remedial lessons the children are going through? Does that work? It may have some effect, but in my opinion, it\’s not very useful. Because there is no solution to the waste of time caused by not understanding in school. It also did not improve any children\’s learning abilities. This is the dilemma of most supplementary classes, because everyone is too focused on the knowledge level and never thinks about \”efficiency\” and \”ability\”. Children do not really become stronger through supplementary lessons. 02 What is tutoring to improve efficiency and ability? A friend asked me, does your little D need tutoring? Both you and Little D’s mother can teach her, so logically there’s no need for it. If I teach her, it\’s equivalent to making up lessons. We still have to follow the principles I mentioned: When I tutor my child, or find a teacher to tutor her, my primary goal is to improve learning efficiency and ability. For a while, Little D\’s math scores were not very good. Little D\’s mother, who has always been relatively calm, became a little anxious. She kept telling and hinting to me that we should either teach in person or find a teacher to provide guidance. I stopped little D’s mother from wanting to go into battle herself. She also did not agree to immediately find a teacher to tutor her. But I agreed that I could arrange for a teacher to answer questions for Little D. But I have a request: Xiao D must read the textbook himself and complete the basic questions. Then collect the questions you don’t understand, then go to see the teacher and ask the teacher questions. Why is this required? This is related to both \”capacity\” and \”efficiency\”. Ability refers to the ability to gain understanding through independent learning; efficiency refers to improving the listening efficiency and learning efficiency when interacting with teachers through advance preparation. 1) Ability: The first step in independent learning is to read the textbook. The teaching materials are written for most children and should be understandable. The reason why many children fail to learn well is because of the confusion in the method system. I never read the textbooks, never ponder every concept, definition, or theorem, I just want to listen to the teacher. Don’t ask questions if you don’t understand, just do your homework in a daze. The more you accumulate, the harder it becomes to understand. 2) Efficiency: On the other hand, the best way to improve efficiency is to be prepared for learning. Whether it is a class at school or going out to a tutoring class, the mind is empty and unprepared, and it is just another inefficient repetition. Therefore, from the perspectives of ability and efficiency, I used supplementary lessons as a basis to help Little D improve his mathematics learning. Later, she only went to the teacher to answer questions 4 times, and her mathematics learning was poor.Slowly getting back on track, there is no need for extra make-up lessons, and time is saved. Then she initially accepted my request for her to preview. Because only by previewing can you be prepared for class and understand it clearly, without wasting class time. Therefore, in her extracurricular debate classes, mathematical thinking classes, TOEFL classes, advance study classes, etc., she always adhered to this standard. If she does not prepare, she will not attend class; if she wants to attend class, she must prepare. 03What is the best tutoring class? The best extracurricular classes are those that not only provide children with knowledge, but also provide additional and greater value. Including: stimulation of interest, expansion of thinking, development of habits, improvement of efficiency, improvement of ability, increase of confidence, etc. These are all important values that exceed knowledge. For example, extracurricular classes that are also forward-looking, can inspire thinking, and stimulate children\’s interest are better than extracurricular classes that memorize routines and solve problems; they can also make up for the difference, help children improve their abilities, increase their confidence, and enable them to gradually learn in the original class. Keep up, this is a qualified tutoring class. If it only extends the learning time and training time without solving the root problems of children\’s learning, such extracurricular classes will not bring \”added value\”. Some friends will say that it is difficult for us to choose good teachers to meet such high requirements for extracurricular classes and cram schools. What should we do? At least one thing is that you can follow the requirements I gave to Little D. You must make preparations before attending all classes. In this way, no matter what class you take, the results will exceed expectations.
